He`s So Original
By Skirt.com, Thursday, March 18, 2010, 0 comments

When Mike wanted to buy some modern, eco-friendly furniture for his house and couldn’t find anything he liked, he decided to put his architecture degree from SCAD to use and design his own. He liked the results so much—and so did his friends—that he opened up a shop to manufacture, design, and build his own residential and commercial furniture, along with custom work. The result is Structured Green, and if you’ve ever admired Savannah Bee Company’s beautiful honeycomb doors on Broughton Street, you’ve already appreciated their work firsthand.

My work: emma j design, designer of Twist Paper invitation line.

I love: my husband and my adorable cat and  dog, decorating books and blogs, fashion, painting, volunteer work, cooking, Pandora, anything with lemons, prosecco…

My favorite possession: my grandmother’s piano. I grew up playing on it with her guidance (she was a piano teacher) and inherited it a few years ago.

I have been wanting to play the guitar forever and I am not that bad on my husband's, but my hands are a bit smaller than his and my chest is kind of large making it hard to play some of the traditional acoustics. For valentines day he got me my Dean Playmate, 3/4 size guitar. It looks just like a slightly smaller version of his beautiful blue Dean. It has a smaller body that accommodates the chest and the neck is shorter-nice for small hands. It has all the quality of a Dean (once the factory strings were replaced) and it was very wallet friendly for beginners etc.

Designer Caroline Doherty and I have been great buddies since we met jumping on a bed when we were five. I was thrilled when she sent me a pair of beautiful mittens to wear on my wedding-pink cashmere, elbow length, and made by her using recycled wool and vintage buttons and leather. They were elegant and fun and kept my fingers and arms warm for a November beach wedding!

Sonya Yong James Sonya’s parents met during the Vietnam War and he moved his new bride back to his home state of Tennessee. Soon the couple had Sonya and moved to Atlanta when she was about 6 months old. (Which makes her practically a native now at age 38!)

The Journal Keeper

The Journal Keeper Phyllis Theroux Theroux’s observations about daily life in her small town and her interior writing life have drawn raves, and justly so. She’s my long-time writing mentor, and this book is almost like being in one of her amazing workshops.

When third generation artist Andrea Diamond and her husband, Richard Borland, were both laid off from their jobs last year they decided to turn the negative situation into a positive one: they opened an art studio. With her 25 years experience of teaching math, science, and art; and his background in business at companies like Amgen and Disney it seemed like the perfect solution. It turns out that it was.
