If you’re in the Beaufort area and in search of kombucha, organic cotton yoga pants or phosphate-free dish soap, you’re bound to meet this woman.

The owner of It’s Only Natural on Lady’s Island can usually be found behind the counter or among the shelves, happily fielding questions about healthy alternatives in this land of Southern fried living.

“Our goal is to empower people to take charge of their health. There are no quick fixes – moderation is the key.”

The certified reflexologist moved to South Carolina in 1994 and after running a bookkeeping service for local businesses, opened the shop in 2000. “I got tired of driving out of town for supplements and organic produce, and I thought, ‘Hey, maybe we can do this.’”

Along with her knowledgeable staff, Joyce serves up Southern hospitality with an enlightened outlook – not to mention a scrumptious vegetarian lasagna in the deli.

Web-exclusive content:

*Joyce credits her lifestyle with an increased sense of health. “I don’t like to make wild claims, but I’m rarely sick.”

*She still accepts clients for reflexology, the practice of massaging the feet to benefit other parts of the body.

*It’s Only Natural has an extensive lending library of health-related materials upstairs, along with workshop space and a fabulous gift nook. Daily lunch specials are posted online!
