Vinson Miner aims for authenticity.

It’s true that hunting is more hobby than necessity these days, but this Savannah-based craftsman believes that there’s something genuine about bringing it back to basics.

“It’s a challenge to hunt with a bow instead of a gun – you only get one shot.”

With the ancient techniques of our primitive ancestors, Vinson creates bows and arrows from natural resources like Osage wood, turkey feathers and stone made wicked-sharp by a process known as flintknapping - even the decorative trim of his leg ties is fashioned out of porcupine quills.

“I’m big into using everything that can be used. I’ve always got my feelers out for new materials.”

The expectant father vends his wares online and at living history events, regaling folks with true tales of man vs. wild. Wondering about the claw necklace? Let’s just say a couple of bears lost that fight.

What is your favorite part about reading skirt!? “It’s just a great local read.”

How about wearing a skirt? “I’m firmly established in my manhood and all, but this doesn’t keep out the bugs for nothin’!”
