she`s so skirt!she`s so skirt!

Dr. Liz Desnoyers-Colas used to wear combat boots.

As an Air Force Captain who advanced to Major during the first Gulf War, Liz certainly qualifies as Athena, goddess of war. But it is Athena's wisdom that she pursued upon returning home, earning her doctorate in communications with an emphasis on intercultural relations, a degree that she applies just about anywhere. "Some people refer to me as an interdisciplinary guru," she laughs. A professor at Armstrong Atlantic State University, she is developing a leadership track curriculum for AASU's Women's Studies program and remains a champion of women in the military. "You don't have to agree with the political administration to support our female troops. Let them know they're appreciated." Inspired by the underreported story of the first female African-American prisoner of war, Liz is writing a book about the experiences of African-American women in both Gulf wars. "There are five times more women in this war than the last and forty percent of those are African-American. Who is telling their stories?"
