Ron Daise is in tune with history.

You might know his face from his children’s show “GullahGullahIsland,” which ran on Nick Jr. for five years and starred the Beaufort resident and his wife, Natalie, but Ron’s musical message isn’t for kids only.

“Heritage – for any individual - isn’t simply about dressing in a certain ‘look’ or eating a certain food. It’s about knowing who you are and where you’ve come from,” says the author, performer and champion of SeaIsland culture. “But we Gullahs still eat rice three times a day,” he adds with a wink.

Blessed with a baritone voice that turns anything that comes out of his mouth into a song, Ron spends his days “edutaining” audiences and promoting his book, Gullah Branches, West African Roots. The father of two teenagers, he is ever grateful for “the strength and skills of our ancestors, and the music! Especially the music.”
