When her son was diagnosed with autism in 2003, the Savannah mom immediately began to research the neurological disorder that currently affects one in 94 boys.

“I found information about childhood shots that my doctor wasn’t giving me,” says the Statesboro native, who marched on Washington in 2004 to advocate vaccine reform.

After years of treating her child with a special diet, natural supplements and hyperbaric therapy, Kim is a leader in the movement to green our vaccines, boosted last spring by a landmark case in which the government conceded that vaccines led to autism in an Athens girl.

“We’re not anti-vaccine; we simply want safer ingredients and a safer schedule. If the CDC says one in six children has developmental problems, we need to look at why.”

Kim currently heads the Patient Liaison Program at the office of Dr. Ramon Ramos, counseling families on biomedical approaches to treating autism, ADHD, childhood bipolar disorder and other neurological issues.

“What we are finding is that children with autism spectrum disorders have medical problems that need to be addressed. These kids are overloaded with viruses, yeast, bacteria, parasites and/or heavy metals. They have serious food allergies and sensitivities, and when these issues are addressed, the kids get better.”

Kim is at work compiling gluten-free, dairy-free recipes for a cookbook to help families with special needs children.
