Zach and Christopher Say “Be Good Literary Citizens”
By Elena, Wednesday, November 2, 2011When Zach Powers and Christopher Berinato found themselves discouraged by Savannah’s underdeveloped writing community, they set out to cultivate it. “There were writers, but they just didn’t know each other,” says Zach, “One of my motivations was to bring that community together.” Thus, Seersucker Live was born, uniting writers and literature lovers for readings by local and national artists. “It’s an opportunity to hear how the author interprets their own work,” says Chris. Seersucker also publishes an annual and quarterly zine, and holds a monthly “Happy Hour for Writers.” After all, their motto, Zach says, is “to treat literature with respect without taking it too seriously.”
